How to deal with alcohol and drugs at work
Alcohol and drugs use is widespread in our community. Alcohol, in particular, plays a large role in the culture of many workplaces, from social functions and events to celebrating employee success. However, alcohol causes more harm to society than all other drugs put together.
The use of alcohol and other drugs are considered serious and complex problems. Research demonstrates that alcohol and drug use contributes to substantial illness and death, as well as social and family disruption, violence, social issues and, of course, workplace concerns. The use of alcohol and drugs at work adversely affects workplace safety and productivity. Conversely, work stress and workplace conditions, such as long hours, low job satisfaction and adverse events or accidents, also have a direct impact on the levels of alcohol and drugs consumed by employees.
