Congratulations! All of your efforts during your job search have paid off. When you receive a phone call to let you know you have been a verbal offer, your first instinct is probably to shout “yes” down the phone. This may be appropriate if you have negotiated everything you want throughout the recruitment process, leaving no surprises in the actual offer.

However, more often than not, it is more appropriate to give yourself some time to consider the offer. Not too long, you don’t want the recruiter or employer thinking you are not interested. Typically, 24 hours is an acceptable period of time to request for you to consider the offer, but clarify this on the call.
